Anyone familiar with the blockchain universe knows there are a few household names that are recognized as thought leaders in the space. The two most popular names are the obvious ones such as the anonymous Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, and Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin.
During the tail end of the 2017 bull-run a few other names started popping up on Crypto Twitter. These names were Charles Hoskinson, Gavin Wood and Fabian Vogelsteller, all original developers with the Ethereum Foundation.
While Charles had a very public breakup with the Ethereum team early on, Fabian remained with the development team and completely changed the entire crypto world with his creation of the ERC-20 Standard, which ushered in the ICO Boom and Token Revolution.
Depending upon your view of tokens versus coins, the ERC-20 standard has been a major innovation in this space. Nearly half of the entire crypto market cap is currently circulating due to Fabian’s contribution to authoring this standard.
Outside of standardizing the token creation, Fabian saw a need for developers to sync their projects with the Ethereum Network. So he created the Mist Browser using a graphical user interface (GUI) and first ever Ethereum Wallet that was easy to use and offered great scalability.
Fabian has an unmatched ability to see what is needed to push the industry forward, as well as the expertise to build the next set of tools that will allow for open-source programming to scale in the future.
His next creation was Web3.js. Without getting overly technical, Web3.js is a collection of libraries that provides the open-source tools to interact with Ethereum nodes. To this day, the Web3.js Library is the most used library in all of crypto and has been an instrumental piece in Ethereum’s success, as well as all the token projects that followed.
Once again standardizing open-source coding while offering the flexibility for innovation has been a delicate dance that no other developer in crypto has managed to do, at scale, except for Fabian.
For most developers these 4 massive innovations would be the highlights of their careers, but not for Fabian. In the spirit of true decentralization, and forecasting the future, Fabian set out to define how someone’s identity should be integrated into blockchain technology.
This new standard of identity is called ERC-725 and is the single most important standard currently needed to bring mass adoption to blockchain.
Fabian, and others that are working together on ERC-725, believe that your personal identity, reputation, and social profiles should be owned by you, as well as fully interoperable with any application you desire.
For many people their social media profiles are a way of life, however, they don’t actually own these profiles. Rather, centralized authorities control the fate of these accounts.
Fabian has set out to give self-sovereign identity back to you, as this is a key Lego block in the foundation of scaling blockchain technology for the masses. This innovation which is more commonly referred to as a Universal Profile (and is in Alpha Testing now) stands to be the de facto standard for every blockchain that exists. Solving this issue is desperately needed and will gain adoption quickly in the next few years.

If you can’t see the pattern of Fabian consistently being the developer behind the scenes who is quietly changing the world, then you’re not paying attention. Each one of these innovations has had no marketing or press releases, while still being adopted by nearly all developers across the blockchain space.
Yet again, building on top of these sets of standards, Fabian has co-founded a new blockchain called Lukso, which will provide solutions for physical and digital consumer goods at scale.
His work at Lukso is about building an entire ecosystem that is 100% compatible with Ethereum, has easy to use website plug-ins, Dapps, and a fully decentralized blockchain with up to 70,000 validators and an average 245 TPS at mainnet launch.
Lukso’s L16 testnet is set to launch in Q4 2021 and the Lukso community couldn’t be more excited about this major milestone being so close!
